Choosing the Right Frame for the Room

Choosing the Right Frame for the Room

Choosing the right frame for your art work is not as easy as you might think! The frame can play an integral role in the overall impact that the picture has in the room, and deciding on whether or not that a wood finish frame, or a guilt edged moulding would best suit can be the difference between enhancing the picture, or detracting attention away from it.

Subject Matter for Framing

It is always important to take into consideration the subject matter that you wish to frame. For instance, a delicate water colour of a landscape, really does not lends itself to heavy, thick framing, although there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to peoples taste, there are guide lines that for the majority of the time do seem to work.

Where to Hang the Picture

Another consideration is where to display the frame. Consideration should be given to the decor of the room where the frame is to be hung. If for instance you are thinking of a coloured frame thought should be given to the room, a frame that coordinates with the colour scheme of the decor, and enhances the picture is the ideal.

How high a Picture Should be Hung

There is a lot of controversy and different thought on how high a picture should be hung, but again a fairly widely accepted rule is to hang the centre of the picture at eye level, this of cause will vary from person to person. The only accept ion to this rule is in the bedroom, where pictures can be hung at a lower level as the usual viewing position is from a lower height.
